Understanding Newborn Baby Sizes

Not sure what "newborn size" actually means? You're definitely not alone. Many parents are surprised to learn that newborn clothing sizes can vary quite a bit between brands. Some labels use 0000 (four-zeros) to represent a standard newborn size, while others may describe a similar fit as XXS, with some US/UK brands using NB.

This can make shopping a little confusing — especially when you're trying to plan ahead before your baby arrives or buying a thoughtful gift. In some brands, a 0000 is designed for an average full-term newborn, while in others an XS may be cut larger depending on the purpose, style, fabric stretch, or design.

Typically these items are designed for babies between 3kg to 8kg, but remember that babies grow quickly so having a range of sizes on hand is also important, especially if your scans have shown that baby is on the bigger side.
