8 Years

By the time kids hit around 8 years old, they’re usually busy little legends — juggling school, sport, hobbies, friendships and a whole lot of growing. Clothes at this stage need to be comfy, cool and able to survive real life, from monkey bars to movie nights.

In Australia, this age group is generally labelled Size 8 or 8 years, but (as most parents discover!) sizing can still be all over the place depending on the brand, fabric and style. As a rough guide, Size 8 often suits kids weighing around 25–28kg and measuring up to about 130cm tall. That said, checking height and build is usually way more helpful than just going by age.

At this stage, kids often have very clear ideas about what they like wearing — and comfort is everything. Think soft but sturdy fabrics, easy layers for unpredictable weather, adjustable waists, and styles they can run, climb, chill and hang out in without a second thought.

Because growth spurts can pop up out of nowhere, it can be smart to plan ahead a little, especially with jackets, knits and everyday basics they’ll wear on repeat.
