Size: 1 Year
As your little one approaches their first birthday, you may notice clothing sizes change again — and it can feel like they move up faster than expected. In Australia, this stage is most commonly labelled 0, Size 1, 12–18 months, S, or sometimes 18–24 months depending on the brand. Some labels may also describe this size as Small (S).
As a general guide, Size 1 is designed to suit babies around 1 year old, typically fitting little ones weighing up to around 12kg and measuring up to approximately 84cm in height. However, every baby grows at their own pace, and many will move into Size 1 before their first birthday.
Because fabric stretch, garment style, and brand sizing can vary, it can be helpful to think ahead when choosing clothing. For example, if you’re buying a jacket or seasonal outfit, you may wish to consider going up a size so your child can comfortably wear it for the full season — especially during cooler months when layering is needed.
This is such an active and exciting stage. Babies are often walking, climbing, exploring and playing more independently, so clothing that allows freedom of movement, durability, and easy dressing becomes even more important.
